Comprehensive Evaluation

At First Step, we believe accurate assessment is the foundation for effective programming—especially for children with autism or developmental delays. The Comprehensive Developmental Assessment aims to create a comprehensive profile of the child’s current level across various domains to ensure a personalized and effective intervention plan.

💡 What does the assessment include?

Speech and Language Evaluation

Assessing pre-linguistic skills, vocabulary, receptive and expressive language

Monitoring speech clarity, play stages, and social skills

Based on play observation, parental interviews, and daily activity analysis

Behavioral and Cognitive Assessment

Utilizing standardized behavioral checklists based on parental concerns

Screening cognitive abilities as a foundation for understanding mental functions

Using IQ tests if cognitive difficulties are suspected


Occupational Therapy Evaluation

Fine and gross motor skills assessment

Evaluation of attention, focus, sensory processing, and Picky eating.

Evaluate daily living skills based on the parents’ reports.

90 to 135 minutes, depending on the child’s needs

Bringing previous medical reports or diagnoses is encouraged to support accurate evaluation


First Step Counseling Center is the first center in the Arabian Gulf countries to be accredited by the International Council for Accreditation of Standards for Continuing Education and Training. It is also the first center in Kuwait to provide comprehensive assessment and intervention services for children suffering from developmental, behavioral and psychological disorders such as: autism spectrum disorder, hyperactivity and attention deficit, language delay, and other developmental disorders that children are exposed to in the early stages of life. We have a unique and distinctive experience in the field of early intervention from comprehensive assessment to building and implementing individual treatment plans.The center includes a group of specialized professionals who lead the way in new developments in the State of Kuwait, as First Step Center is an ambitious, forward-thinking specialized center. In our keenness to be at the forefront of providing rehabilitation services, we sought to create an organized environment that includes a multidisciplinary team, including behavior analysts and technicians, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, and psychologists. Through this, we aim to provide applied behavior analysis on a scientific basis for intervention, and to enhance functional skills that enable the child to rely on himself in performing his daily functions, at home, school and in the community. We also strive to provide effective and organized ways to help children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder develop faster, in line with their individual needs.
